Numbness and tingling is an abnormal sensation that can occur anywhere in your body, but is most commonly found in the feet, legs, arms and hands. There are many possible causes of numbness and tingling, but chiropractic addresses numbness and tingling as the result of a nerve that is irritated or not functioning properly. Some common conditions that people experience numbness and tingling due to nerve interference is carpal tunnel syndrome (in the wrists and hands), herniated discs in the neck and low back, and migraine headaches.

If you are experiencing numbness and tingling, you should seek medical attention right away by going to the hospital or calling 911 if any of the following apply to you:

    • You have sudden weakness or are unable to move, along with numbness or tingling
    • Numbness or tingling occur immediately after a head, neck, or back injury
    • You cannot control the movement of an arm or a leg, or you have lost bladder or bowel control
    • You are confused or have lost consciousness, even briefly
    • You have slurred speech, a change in vision, difficulty walking, or weakness
